Walker Ryan Knows

You just dropped a Thrasher part and traveled to some crazy places. What was your favorite place you went? There are a few unique islands that I'm hyped to have skated in this video part. Okinawa and Cuba were probably the most interesting places I managed to get to. Now that you finished that up is there anything else your working on? Any other upcoming projects? There will be an Organika project in the works. We're putting on a few new team riders so hopefully we'll start working on a full video project. What happened in Iran? Why wouldn't they let you skate? There was some miscommunication between the Iranian skate guide who invited us and the travel agency in Iran that arranged the visas for the US citizens on the trip. Kenny Reed and I ended up on a strict guided tour with an older Iranian tour guide who was required to be with us at all times. We were only allowed to go to tourist sites and museums and skateboarding was strictly prohibited. Unlike the Europeans on the trip, who basically got to do whatever they wanted, Kenny and I had a very restricted and controlled visit. Whats the story behind the switch 360 flip in your newest ad? The Benicia High four block is a spot that is relatively close to my home in St. Helena, CA. When I was 17 I tried to switch 360 flip it but I didn't manage to roll away. I've wanted to do it since then but never found the time to go back until recently. Eight years later I managed to roll away. How long have you been riding the new Thunder 149II 's? What do you think of them? I just started riding the 149II's and I love them. I especially love the way the look. I also ride the 147s sometime with a smaller board and I like that they look more like the 147's. The classic thunder truck in my eyes. What size board do you ride with the new Trucks? I usually ride a 8.5 but sometimes 8.38. I'm a weirdo though and I also have a set up with an 8.1 board and 147's. Depending on my mood or the type of terrain I'm skating I'll switch it up. What was your first introduction to Thunder Trucks? Thunder has always been the coolest truck company to me and I think I was introduced via the connection to Spitfire. I even sent a sponsor me tape to Spitfire when I was ten years old. Do you remember how you first got on the Thunder Team? I just ran into Darin the TM at the time one day I was skating around SF. I remember it was a New Years' Day session and all the spots that are normally a bust were a free for all. Darin asked if I was down and I said hell ya. Who are some of the Thunder Riders that inspire you or you're particularly hyped on right now? I just went on a trip with Dennis Busenitz so he's the first skater who pops into my mind as one of my favorites. Getting to skate with him and watch him skate is super inspiring. How Long do you usually Ride your trucks for? I usually ride them for a long time. The only reason I put on new trucks is if I give my complete set up to someone. What is your go to warm up trick on a ledge spot? Usually a 50-50 and then a nosegrind. It depends on the chunk level of the ledge. For slides I like back tails the most. How do you ride them? Loose, Tight or in the middle? I'm definitely somewhere in the middle. I like to think of them as loose but compared to most other pro skaters' set ups mine lean more towards middle-tight. It also depends on what I'm skating. If I jump down something big I'll usually tighten my trucks to avoid wheel bite. But if I'm skating transition I like to have them middle-loose. I always have a skate tool on hand. Who is in your skate crew that you usually roll with? My skate crew varies from week to week because I travel so much. But generally the SHUFFL crew is who I most frequently skate with, especially if I'm in Northern California. David Cole is probably my most consistent skate partner in crime. He's a legend. Who would be there for your dream skate session? So many dudes. I just came back from a dream skate session trip. Dennis Busenitz, Joey Pepper, Josh Matthews and Nestor Judkins in New Zealand. But I have so many favorite skaters who I love to watch skate and to skate with. The ultimate dream session would be too hard for me to assemble. Shout outs or anyone you want to Thank? I'm grateful for all the free product and financial support from my sponsors, especially Organika, and to everyone who has been supportive of my skating. Thank you.
